Vinegar - Salt - What's best?

From reading posts it sounds like Vinegar will help me retain the dark
stain while Salt will help me achieve the dark stain. This being
said...

Do I put the vinegar in my hair before or after the Indigo?

Also, I'm interested in the times for Indigo... I know that those who
Henna leave it in for hours... does Indigo need the same amount of
time?
