I use vinegar as a rinse before I do any color to roughen up the
hair's mantle-(open the 'pores').
I rinse it out with clear warm water if I am going to color it right
away.
I add vinegar to the henna before it has dye release. I add salt to
the water I use for indigo. I use the indigo first and then again the
next day blended with the henna. (I still add the vinegar and saltin
this way even when I did the henna/indigo first and the indigo
second).
From what I understand, henna is better if used with an acid ph and
indigo is better with an alkaline ph.
