Hello,
Your story is exactly like mine, 2 years ago. Have you tried
light mountain's line of henna called "color the gray"? It really
worked on my roots. It is a two step process. I used thier light
brown for a medium auburn red on my light ash/gray hair. Apply it
carefully with a brush to the roots, parting the hair in 1 inch
sections and painting it on really well.
Eventually I stopped using henna, grew out my hair, and cut it
off... Mostly because I always thought the color was too dark. But
I still haven't found any alternative for something to cover my gray
and leave me with a lighter hair color. I'm looking back at my
pictures as a medium auburn red and thinking... Was it better than
being gray???
The ends of my hair still have a little bit of the "light brown
henna". It has faded over the 2 years to a nice golden... I did
spend a summer half red and half gray and that was not fun.
I think henna is really THE herb that nature has given us who
don't want to be gray and don't want to use chemicals... I just wish
I could come up with a NICE LIGHT color with henna...
My idea is to maybe try the 2 step light brown henna as a "henna
gloss"... ie very low concentration of the stuff... and just apply
it to the roots so as not to build up color... Just my theories,
haven't gotten them to work yet! If you try this let me know how it
goes.

: Hi Everyone,
:
: First of all I must say that I love how henna conditions my hair
but
: unfortunately I will have to have it bleached out. I don't know
if
: any of you know that once you henna you are stuck with it. You
: cannot color over it and for it be removed you have to let it grow
: out or bleach it out. I have always used a light brown box
color. I
: thought I would switch to a healthier color (henna) but I have a
: problem. My roots do not take any color (dark brown) and the rest
of
: it is now (brownish/reddish). My hair color is too dark and I
: absolutely hate it. I cannot get any color on my roots so I am
either
: stuck with living with a 2-tone head until it all grows out or
: bleaching it out and recoloring using a regular dye.
:
: Well that is what I am going to do and I might add it is going to
: cost me about $200.00 to do this whole thing at an AVEDA Hair
Salon
: in New York. I tell you the thought of bleaching my hair makes me
: feel like crying but I have no choice. If I had known this I
would
: NEVER EVER have used henna. Good luck to you all and I hope you
know
: what you are getting into.
