I could not imagine consuming THAT much corn syrup!! That stuff sets me off like "speed", causes low blood sugar episodes in me, it's worse than sugar! And NO SUN???? I would truly die. I get SAD, (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and am right now dying because of the lack of sunlight, I am a SUN WORSHIPPER!! No sun, I'd kill myself!! And as far as sweeteners, I strictly use honey for ALL sweetening, and it has no ill affects on me at all, no low blood sugar attacks, no carb cravings, nothing. I've never heard of your affliction, it must be horrible, I can't even imagine. I was saddled with the diagnosis of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and myofacial pain syndrome, when what I REALLY had was severe oesteoarthritis (which can be caused by allergic reactions to food, toxins, etc, as well as genetics and injury)!!! So I'm not fond of, nor do I trust doctors anymore, when they tell me to my face that I only "think" the pain is in my joints, and then 8 years later have to have my knee replaced for those imaginary pains!! My surgeon, who has done many, many replacements, told my husband it was the worst knee he's ever seen, and ask me how I could possible have gotten that much arthritis in my knee in only 45 years!! I had to scream at my family doctor to send me to another doctor to get a correct diagnosis, or I should put it more correctly my FORMER doctor! Now that I'm on the right track, I am hopeful of overcoming all this stuff and leading a normal life again, if all the drugs and crap they've put me on over the years for my misdiagnosed illnesses haven't damaged me beyond repair. My immune system is working MUCH better now with this diet, with 90% of your immune system created in your digestive system, and with the need for GOOD bacteria that it needs, that only lives on good foods, and the BAD bacteria thriving on wheat, sugar and NSAIDS, my immune system was nearly destroyed. I used to have allergies in the spring, those are gone. I am NEVER sick anymore, even when exposed to stuff. So something is definitely working!! AND I healed so quickly after my knee replacement, my surgeon was totally amazed and after only 8 weeks released me to have my foot done, so I put a lot of stock in this diet, I really do. And the good thing about it is, you can tailor it to whatever you like, low carb, high carb, vegetarian, whatever, as long as you just leave out those few foods! I sure won't be eating any other way again!!! Peace, Ginny : I totally agree that we have ruined most of our food supply and the : environment we grow it in. : In my case, with Porphyria, I have to avoid anything that triggers an : immune response--even the 'good' things. Garlic is deadly. Sunlight : is deadly. The only way to treat Porphyria is with Heme infusions or : Glucose IV. So sugars save my life, even refined, processed ones. But : especially corn sugars which is dextrose or glucose. and I have to : consume them in large quantity--400-800 grams over a 24-36 hour : period. My body processes it differently than someone without : Porphyria. It does not tax my pancreas like it would an average : person. The list of artificial chemicals I must avoid is growing, but : there is a substantial list of natural chemicals that are just as : deadly to me. Cabbage, broccoli, onions, alfalfa, some mushrooms, : celery...and the labels I have to read most carefully are the organic : ones--ever TRY to find a green-food supplement withOUT alfalfa? (and : I need chlorophyll which is the plant equivalent to heme.) Even the : fillers in my multi-vitamin and the minor ingredients in herbal teas : are suspect. And no low-carb diets for me! Number one reason : Porphyria rears its head in people who otherwise would not even know : they had it is dieting and fasting because of cutting carbohydrates! : I actually do better eating a can of Pringles than I do eating a : salad with sprouts and garlic in the low-carb dressing! : wow--your weight loss is phenonmenol! congratulations! : I lost about that much a few years ago when I went into a remission. : I have gained some back, but I got a flu a few years ago and have : struggled with the Porphyria ever since. I am hoping this is my year : (again). : Ravyn, Lady Heresy
