It's probably in the timing. Strand test overnight, full color only 30 minutes. Henna usually
deepens in color (= produces redder tones) the longer you keep it on. Wash it off too early
and you'll likely have a more yellow tones you will have.

Also look at henna quality - better quality henna gives redder results.
