Henna is IN the hair, bound with keratin molecules. Its NOT ON the hair.Posted by Catherine Cartwright-Jones on March 19, 2004 at 20:22:23: In reply to: lightening posted by Jane on March 19, 2004 at 17:06:04: Uh ... Jane .... its a misconception that henna sits ON the hair.Henna binds with the keratin molecules that make up the scales that ARE the hair. Some of the compound hennas that have metals in them ... the metals sit ON the hair. Henna is IN the hair. Just like its IN the skin when you henna your skin. The "coating the hair" is rubbish repeated in cosmetology textbooks that have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to henna. Some of the "box henna" washes out of hair ... but .... its not the henna that's washing out. Its the other unlisted stuff that's mixed with the henna that's washing off the surface of the hair. Body art quality henna binds with the keratin and doesn't wash out! : : Moon Harvester
