You're not the only onePosted by Elettaria on March 28, 2004 at 11:27:53: In reply to: Dried out hair after using henna posted by Ramona on March 27, 2004 at 15:02:34: I tried a "henna gloss", one of Fia's recipes that involves mixing aspoonful of henna with conditioner and not leaving it on for too long. It was meant to be a deep conditioning treatment and not meant to affect the colour. (I have about half a foot of red ends from when I hennaed four years ago, I don't want to go red again.) I was told it was body-art quality henna, and it looked, smelt and behaved OK. However, it was a right nuisance to put on (probably because of problems with the method, not with the henna) and did make the ends, and oddly enough just the ends, redder, though thankfully it seems to be fading a bit with washing. The conditioner, by the by, is great quality stuff, I've been using it for ten years. But my hair was a right nuisance to deal with after the henna gloss treatment, certainly nothing like how soft and manageable it used to be when I was hennaing. It was drier, and getting a hairbrush through it was really not fun. Maybe the henna wasn't everything it should have been, maybe it reacted oddly with the conditioner, but I won't be trying it again, especially since I don't want to risk colour change. I've bought a couple of boxes of a mix of herbs including quinquina for deep conditioning, and I'm going to try messing around with those and some pectin when I have the time and can get someone to help. Someone on this site recommended them, they're made by Henne Color. You could maybe try something like that if the problem doesn't resolve after a few washes.
