I get the feeling that oily substances ‘help’ dislodge some of the dye.

Though I have doubts that it can successfully remove all of the henna
dye. I think that some of it can be dislodged if you use a great
deal of polar solvents in the hair. In other words hot oil
treatments, deep conditioning, or alcohol rinses. This is why I tell
my henna victims not to condition their hair to retain the color.
The fading isn’t significant enough to actually remove much of the
dye so I hesitate to recommend it as a way to remove henna. I think
it is essentially permanent as well.
