Thanks PamPosted by Jade on August 22, 2004 at 23:23:54: In reply to: Re: Henna safe when blended with Indigo? posted by Pam F. on August 19, 2004 at 16:10:22: Hi PamThanks for your reply. I think you're right about the substances activating each individual dye release. It'd be pretty interesting to know about the chemical interaction between henna and indigo... if you tried the combination and it made your hair soft and nice then that's all the comfort I needed for me to try it. Just wanted to know, where did you get the instructions for this mix and what color did you get from using it? Thanks for your time Jade : Hello, Jade. I basically had the same question before I used the : henna and indigo. But actually just using them kind of explains it : better. I believe that if you start with pure powders (henna and : indigo) with no additives except the lemon juice (or other acid : liquid) for the henna powder that that isn't a problem. Some people : even add whipped eggwhites (a base) to the indigo to get it to hold : better to their hair. I think that maybe if one is a base and the : other an acid would they not also cancel each other out?? That is : more the question that I had to start with. But I barely passed : chemistry in school so I still don't understand the process here. : All I know is that it made my hair soft and lustrous if you follow : the procedure the way it is outlined here and be sure to rinse it : out rather well when done! I don't believe that the powders : themselves (henna and indigo) are inherently either a base or an : acid; but it is the substances that you add to them to activate the : dye release of each that makes them so. But I could be wrong, of : course!
