artificial colours are least likely to mess with my hair chemistry?

I remember someone (Tracey?) put Manic Panic pink in her hair
safely. I'll probably have to go with a purpleish tone regardless of
which I choose (lavendar or blue) because there IS henna build up in
my hair and it does stick around through the bleaching (as I've
learned from experience), and I'll want to counter the orangeish tint
that I'm left with on bleached out but previously hennaed hair.
Manic Panic? Punky? Kool-ade? My natural inclination is to get
some of each in the colour I decide I want and strand test them all,
but I don't have the money to cover it. Suggestions and discussion
on the merits of each way of getting blues/purples with each kind
(and any others I don't know about) are welcome, and I'll be sure to
post results and all of that if I decide to go through with it.
