You want your liquid to be room temperature or just slightly warm,
and I think something slightly acidic (just a little lemon juice in
the water) would help the henna stain better without damaging your
hair further. An acid is needed to break the cellulose in the henna
so they dye can come out, so a little lemon in mostly water should
help you. Best of luck.
