henna hand cookie cuttersPosted by Debra on February 6, 2005 at 18:47:55: I followed the link below to the updated online store. Catherine thosehand cookie cutters are so cute. I used to have a smaller version that looked more like the back of hand that my daughter would decorate with nail polish and rings. The palm henna designs look like so much fun. While I am not much of a cook every year at Xmas I make huge batches of roll cookies to give as holiday gifts to family friends, teachers, coaches, etc. I have found that those store bought frostings in tubes and butter cream frostings are horrible for decorating cookies because they take an eternity to dry enough not to smear. The cookies usually go stale before it dries and you can wrap them. I have an easy recipe for royal icing (they are all over the internet) that dries hard in about 20-30 minutes so you can do some fun multiple layer designs. It goes on more smoothly than the greasy stuff. It is 2 eggs worth of powdered egg whites (so you don't get salmonella poisoning, Whole Foods sells them in a cardboard can)and warm water beaten to an almost stiff peak. Then slowly beat in a box (1lb) of confectioner's sugar until it looks like frosting. You can add food coloring or flavors at that point. If can be thinned down or thickened by adding more water/egg whites or more powdered sugar. Easier than mixing henna except you have to wash the egg beaters. Please put this tip in with your cookie cutters, your customers will be grateful, tube frosting is a nightmare for decorating cookies.
