Every last female image I've found in Pompeii that has some association with sex work has red-tinged hair. The men, brown hair, but for a satyr or so. Children, often fair haired or brown haired. My theory? The sex workers were required to henna their hair and shave the pubes to keep the lice under control! Those women were working in rough conditions, and passing lice around with clients would NOT have been fun!
