Amazing (sorry so long!)Posted by Larisa on August 30, 2004 at 15:40:39: Wow...this had First Attempt written all over it. Still, it waspretty fun. I did most of my research here, first, so that helped I'm sure. I've got naturally dark-blonde-in-front to light/med-brown-in-back hair with strong red highlights (it photographs quite red), which I had been coloring with chemicals to a coppery auburn. I also recently cut it from waist-length to shoulder length, as part of moving away from the chemical coloring. I had six weeks of grow- out. I bought a sample from Catherine, and did a harvest test, (lemon juice, sat for 12 hours, terped half with lavender and geranium, sat four more hours, put one-third of my harvested hair each into the terped and unterped henna, for 10 hours. was going to be six, but I went shoe shopping). Both came out a nice, rich auburn that my husband couldn't distinguish from the color I already had. Perfect! I ordered more from Catherine, and probably should have tested again with that batch, but, hey, live and learn, right? Friday night, I mixed up 200 grams with half water, half lemon juice, waited 12 hours and terped it lightly. Got stomach flu, and waited another 24 hours before applying. Applied it to the roots with a color-applicator brush; it was really easy to work in! The henna paste was creamy-smooth and didn't spill anywhere! It was great. Now, here comes the exciting part: four hours later, in the two- fisted Glop Fest of getting henna worked into the rest of my hair, I managed to stain my forehead right down to my eyebrows and stuff both ears full of henna. (yes, it washed off pretty good) Then came the panicked dash to the kitchen to mix up 100 more grams, heating up the water and lemon this time, to try and catch up. (while my hair is shoulder length, it's both very thick and extremely fine--you can't beat it for surface area--I forgot to factor that in). Soooo, I mixed that in, used *all* of it, but got my hair completely covered, put the plastic bag back on and waited four more hours. Getting the henna back out was more work than I expected. After four shampoos, a 16-ounce bottle of conditioner and an hour of rinsing, I gave up, put a dark towel over my pillow and went to bed. I'll wash more out tonight. My hair is AMAAAAAZZZING!! It's a deep, bright, strawberry-mahogany- ruby-red RED red; would never be mistaken for natural, but looks GREAT with my skin. Best of all, my roots are just as red as the dyed-auburn parts. I wonder how much it will tone down in the next few days? Oh yeah, and my husband loves it! So, Catherine, is your henna always this red, or should I stock up on this lot (shipment, batch, ?) and keep it in the freezer? I wanna keep roughly this color for as long as I can :) Thanks everybody for this forum, and thanks Catherine, for this site, and all the guidance you all have provided! Larisa
