That's a Catch-22 all rightPosted by Elettaria on September 22, 2004 at 00:06:14: In reply to: Re: Are you doing test strands? posted by melrose on September 21, 2004 at 23:55:38: Well, if it doesn't colour the strand test it's not going to colourthe rest of your hair either! Try the strand tests I suggested, and you may as well wait until you've had your hair cut. Strand tests aren't just to check whether or not the henna will damage your hair (which isn't a risk for a lot of people anyway), they're also to fine-tune the colour. Apparently if you heat henna too much, it wrecks its capacity to dye. The pectin method involves pouring the boiling pectin-water mixture onto the henna powder, hence risk of "cooking" it. At least that's what they say. I replied to another post of yours further down. It's vitally important that you use the best quality pure henna that you can find - with what's happened to your hair already, you don't want to take any risks. What exactly happened to your hair with the pectin attempt? Did much of it fall out of get damaged? Is it stronger at all? Is there definitely no colour change even in sunlight?
