Shampoo before I henna?

One other thing I also do is condition my hair the night before I henna with
coconut and jojoba oil. I then rinse most of this out (no shampoo) let my hair
dry and then henna. Do you shampoo your hair previous to using henna? I've
been avoiding this as my hair is terribly dry even before I use the henna.
