Hi Debra,
I used black walnut for the first time Wed. night.
Here's what I mixed:
Thawed out some left over henna mix from last dye batch.
Put that into a color applicator bottle.
Mixed up a paste of black walnut, amla, and indigo.
Put that into bottle. So, it was about 50/50.
Slept with mix on my head, so around 12 hours.
This was much more brown than just henna, but husband says
it's still too red for my coloring. I'm going to have time
for some henna play this weekend. Right now I have the amla
soaking with water. To that I will add black walnut and indigo.
I hope to tone down the red/orange a bit.
A tip I picked up from Alex, the indigo release is fast, 10-15
minutes. So the times I've used indigo I have my hair all clipped
up and ready to rock. I add the indigo to the mix last, then wait
10 min. and run to the shower stall to get it in as fast as I can.
Alex says that after the indigo is released, you need to use it,
because once it blows it's wad it's dead!
Hope this helps, Nancy E.
