Getting ready to do first henna

I'm getting ready to do henna for the first time this week-end. I
did two hair brush tests and could hardly see any difference at all
on my dark brown hair. With that in mind, I wanted to see how it
would come out on my grey roots since I've got at least 50% or more
grey at the roots. I picked an spot on my head that wouldn't show
too much and used Catherine's body art henna mixed with lemon juice
and nothing else. After 3 hours I took a look. It was orange. That
was on Thursday morning and it still looks orange to me. I'm going
to do another test this morning using some indigo and walnut powder
added in but so far I'm not too happy with the orange. I thought it
would have deepened. Any advice? Did I not let the dye release
enough? I let it sit overnight and there seemed like lots of dye
release in the morning.
