Also brunette with "platinum" rootsPosted by Magdalene on January 8, 2005 at 11:33:21: In reply to: Getting ready to do first henna posted by Teena on January 8, 2005 at 07:35:02: I've noticed that it can take 3-5 days for darkening to occur. Sofar, I've applied henna all over my head and hair 4 times within a 3- week period. The first few times, I cautiously left it in only a short period (but it still took). The last time, I left it in for more than 4 hours. The layering, and the time in between to darken, have finally resulted in deep auburn roots. Because my dark brown is dyed, I'm waiting for the natural fade-back to occur on that part of the hair shaft. (My hair tends to fade back to a reddish brown.) The first time I hennaed, I felt the way you did... didn't think I could live with "hot roots." I'm glad I hung in there, though. I don't have orange roots anymore. I plan on retouching at the first hint of gray, which will probably mean every 2 weeks, so that at any time the orange-ness will be minimally apparent, until it darkens and gets another dose of henna 2 weeks later. Hope this helps.
