I would suggest visiting a homeopath/naturopathic doctor for a
general health checkup. If you have been a vegetarian/vegan or have
been on a multitude of diets over the years - I would bet that has
some huge significance for your growing hair, especially if you are
not quite careful making sure you get all that you need nutrition
wise. even the best vegetarians are vitamin/mineral deficient,
according to research I've read. your doctor will be able to tell
by blood tests, I believe. I would not suggest taking supplements
(i.e. silicon or whatnot) without first talking to a doc. also, you
must know that you cannot replace the vits/mins/nutrients you loose
from eating incorrectly, with supplements (they work holistically in
the foods you eat, not as an isolated product in a pill).

also, regarding haircuts, try to find someone in your town that
specializes in long/very long hair - ask them if they are familiar
with the dr. george michael techniques of hair cutting. and do a
google search on him, it's cool stuff, and a unique way of cutting
and caring for long hair or for those who want to grow long hair.
this is just one link to start with.
