I have ginger (not red) hair, would henna darken it?

My hair isn't red, it's ginger (there is a difference!) and it isn't
ginger in the way Nicole Kidmans is, as hers is quite light, but
mine is darker, but I just simply cannot find any information
about coloring ginger hair with henna on the internet. I was
hoping somebody here could help me.

I know henna is for coloring hair red, but I understand you can
add things to make it darker. I really would like dark brown hair,
so is it just a matter of adding coffee to the henna? Is henna
even OK to use with ginger hair? And can it make it look naturally
brown instead of ending up with the rather obvious red tinge?
Could somebody please help to put me in the right direction?
