first henna - a little brassy - questions?

After wondering about henna for years, I finally found this site,
ordered some, and used it last night. YAY!

So here's the scoop....mixed up 200g of henna, let it
release....then mixed 100g indigo, let it release. Took about 100g
of henna and mixed it with hot super strong brewed coffee, ground
cloves, then about 15g of the indigo. With loads of help, I
slathered it on my head, wrapped well in saran wrap, and it sat for
3.5 hours. I now have a color that I almost but not quite love. My
natural color is very dark brown with some gray....the new color is
darkish auburn with really brassy streaks where the grays were. The
brassy color doesn't suit me too well.

So my big questions:
1. if I do this again next weekend, what mixture should I use to
make sure the orange tones down?
2. the mixture dripped out of the saran and all over me - many
times. what's a better way to keep this from happening?
3. the post-henna smell on my head is really unpleasant to
me....should I add a favorite eo to the next batch to change that?
