but I think especially in view of the recent post about a metallic
taste in the mouth after henna-ing...

Henna and Indigo and Amla and Cassia ARE herbs and ARE natural. BUT
and this is a biggggg BUT--
just because something is natural does not mean it does not have
chemicals in it, nor does it mean that it is 100% good for everyone!
the advantage of using NATURAL CHEMICALS to dye hair over ARTIFICIAL
CHEMICALS to dye hair is obvious in this modern world where cancer
reigns supreme. BUT that does not mean everyone will be side-effect
free when using henna et al.

Marijuana is 100% natural. Arsenic is 100% natural. Cyanide is 100%
natural. Heroin is 100% natural. get the point? and don't forget
legitimate allergies! Peanuts are 100% natural. Poison Ivy is 100%
natural!

I notice that people tend to downplay the chemical nature of '100%
Natural'! 'Chemical' is not synonymous with 'Artificial'. All of our
artificial chemicals are but attempts to imitate nature in an effort
to produce more, quicker, cheaper! Quality suffers most of the time.
But remember, 'natural' products are mostly non-regulated and you are
dealing with endless quality-control issues. As an example, take pot.
Not every crop of pot has the same amount of THC(I think that is the
correct chemical)--in the 1960's it was mild compared to today. And I
don't care WHO tells you--there is no such thing as 'non-allergenic'.
Somewhere someone is allergic to 'it'--whatever 'it' is!

I know Catherine understands the chemical aspects--she blinds us with
science(LOL cute subject line!)--but some of these 'natural' herbs
and stuff we are adding to the mix COULD be dangerous for someone.

If you get a metallic taste in your mouth--see a doctor! Get some
liver tests done! Don't play with this! My 43 yr. old cousin died of
liver cancer last yr.! She didn't get to see her first grandbaby's
first birthday! (She did not dye her hair or use henna--don't get me
wrong--but take a warning--it can happen to anybody!)

I hope no one takes offense, I don't mean to offend. But chemicals
are not the bad guys, ignorance is. whatever you decide to do--KNOW
what you are doing!
